Kumea adventure course fined

Worksafe New Zealand says a high ropes adventure course which has been fined after the death of a man had not installed an improved safety system like its competitors.

Clifford Brabet fell after a pulley he incorrectly put in place, detached from a safety wire at Tree Adventures in the Woodhill Forest near Kumeu last March.

Tree Adventures was fined nearly $24,000 and ordered to pay $80,000 in reparation to Mr Brabet's widow at the Waitakere District Court on Friday.

Worksafe's chief investigator Keith Stewart says it's sad the company was not using a second attachment point like two other operators.

He says relying on a single point attachment was foolhardy.
