NZ dairy ingredient falls short

The Kiwi Ice Cream Company says it is recalling a range of product lines because a New Zealand produced dairy ingredient doesn't meet the company's requirements in 15 of its ice cream and dessert products.

The Ministry for Primary Industries has been alerted about the company's recall, sparked by a New Zealand-produced dairy ingredient not meeting requirements.

Foodstuffs - which run Four Square, New World and Pak'nSave - says it has notified its supermarkets about the recall, as has Progressive Enterprises, which runs Countdown.

Tubs of Kiwi vanilla, hokey pokey and strawberry and cream, with best before dates of September and October 2015, are affected.

The ministry says the products should not be consumed.

It says Kiwi's ice cream and another affected product, Mel-O-Rich desserts, are also exported.
