Police have named an Ashburton man who died in a fiery crash south of Christchurch on Monday.
Michael Francis Sheahan died after the car he was driving crashed into a ditch and burst into flames on State Highway 1, near Dunsandel.
Passers-by freed the 68-year-old, but he died at the scene.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
