Children more adept with smartphones than shoelaces

An internet study says New Zealand children aged between three and five are adept at computer games and using smartphones, but struggle to tie their shoelaces.

The study, by AVG Technologies, an internet security company, showed 72 percent of New Zealand children surveyed could play a computer game but only eight percent could tie their shoes.

However, 2020 Communications Trust spokesperson Laurence Zwimpfer says technology is a fact of life and the results are not worrying.

He says similar concerns were raised when televisions were introduced and the real issues are child safety and parental guidance.
