Prime Minister John Key is denying allegations that files in the case of Kim Dotcom were deleted by the Government Communications Security Bureau.

On Monday night the internet entrepeneur said on Twitter that the spy agency had thrown away files relating to his ongoing legal dispute.

Mr Key said on Tuesday the GCSB archives all legal documents forever and Mr Dotcom's statements are confusing the public.

The Prime Minister could not confirm whether a government lawyer had contacted Mr Dotcom.
