One of the country's leading children's book illustrators and writers has won a major award.
David Elliot is the 2014 winner of the Storylines Margaret Mahy Award. First given in 1991, it recognises lifetime achievement in the genre of children's writing and illustration.
Storylines Trust chair Libby Limbrick, says David Elliot is a worthy recipient. "He's an outstanding illustrator but he's also made a wonderful contribution to supporting literature in New Zealand."
Mr Elliot said he is very lucky to do what he does, namely, live on his imagination.
He said award recognises people who have contributed to children's literature. "They've produced books, they've talked to children, visited schools, all those sorts of things, rather than singling you out as being a great writer or a great illustrator. I think it's really just about being part of the industry."
