Wanaka assault victim contacts police

5:11 pm on 12 January 2014

A man beaten up in a savage daylight assault in Albert Town near Wanaka last week has finally contacted the police.

There had been fears the man, who was believed to be an overseas tourist, may have been badly injured in the attack before he managed to escape with a woman.

But police in Wanaka say the victim phoned on Sunday after hearing reports the police wanted to talk to him, and they will be taking a statement.

They were unable to reveal the extent of any injuries he may have suffered.

Three arrests have been made in relation to the attack.
