Police station evacuated again

4:41 pm on 10 January 2014

The main police station in west Auckland had to be evacuated for the second time in a week due to fears over an explosive.

A woman arrived at the Henderson station on Friday and handed in a potentially explosive 60mm mortar round at the front counter.

Cordons were put place around the station and the bomb squad called. It was identified as an inert World War II round and the police station was reopened.

Police say the woman purchased it two years ago at a garage sale and is very embarrassed about what happened.

The same station was evacuated a week ago when someone brought a World War II practice bomb in for disposal.

Police say anyone finding such items should leave them where they are and call them.
