Elderly woman attacked at home

An advocate for the elderly says an attack on a woman in south Auckland is a horrible sign of the times.

The woman, who is in her 70s, opened the door of her Papatoetoe home on Wednesday to get her laundry when a masked man with a knife burst in and ransacked the house, tying her to a bed with a scarf and bedsheet.

In November in the same suburb there was another home invasion of a woman about the same age.

Wendy Bremner of Age Concern in Manukau said it is disgusting that vulnerable people are targeted and urged anyone with any information, no matter how slight, should talk to police.

Officers are door-knocking in the area on Friday and have been interviewing the woman.
