Lifeguards at a Wellington bay where a shark was sighted on Sunday afternoon, say it is now gone and it's safe for people to swim.
The shark was sighted by lifeguards at Scorching Bay at about 2pm.
They say it was about 1.5 metres long and came within just two metres of the shore. No swimmers were in the water at the time.
The shark is believed to be a young bronze whaler.
