5th year in deficit at City Mission

8:22 am on 29 December 2013

Wellington City Mission says 2013 was its fifth year of operating with a deficit and it has to consider cutting services next year.

Chief executive Michelle Branney says the service operates mostly on donations, but there's not enough revenue to cover the $2 million it costs to run the mission.

Expenses are steadily increasing and Ms Branney says it's becoming harder to get things done.

However, she says that cutting or limiting services can lead to bigger problems further down the track.
