The Crown has told a court Rae Portman was murdered in cold blood over a drug deal that went wrong.
Ms Portman, who was 33 and pregnant, went missing in June 2012. Her body was found on a South Auckland farm three months later.
Crown Prosecutor Kieran Raftery, in his closing address at the High Court at Auckland today, told jurors Ms Portman's case was an example of the dangers associated with drug dealing.
Ms Portman gave Dean Addison a package of pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient needed to make methamphetamine, Mr Raftery said.
She expected to get cash or methamphetamine in return but instead Mr Addison avoided her calls and then organised for Ms Portman to be kidnapped.
One of the men who carried out the kidnapping was Paraire Te Awa, who bound and gagged her before driving her to Hamilton, where he strangled her, Mr Reftery told the court.
