Man's death after drinking binge a warning - coroner

4:21 pm on 22 October 2013

A coroner says the death of an Auckland man should serve as a reminder of the dangers of heavy drinking.

Coroner Deborah Marshall found that Michael Wilson, 45, had died after falling from the porch of a friend's house in March this year, hitting his head on concrete.

He was later discovered lying in front of his house unconscious, and died days later from head injuries.

After the fall, his friends didn't think he was badly injured and drove him home, as they said it was normal for him to get into what they called a "drunken state" and fall over.
