Lorde's song wins Silver Scrolls writing award

The Lorde song, Royals has won this year's Silver Scrolls songwriter award.

The winner of the 2013 APRA Silver Scroll Award is decided on by thousands of songwriters and composers.

The 16 year old was hotly tipped to take the prize, after the song reached number one in the charts in New Zealand, and topped the Billboard Alternative charts in America.

The ceremony on Tuesday night in Auckland, also included the official induction into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame for Dave Dobbyn.

Karlo Margetic won the SOUNZ classical award for his piano trio piece, Lightbox, and the award for the most performed piece of New Zealand music both here and overseas, went to Brooke Fraser for the song Something in the Water.

The song Ruaimoko by Maisey Rika won the Maioha award.
