Election book reward seen as stunt

The head of Local Government New Zealand says a reward for information about mistakes in election booklets is just a stunt.

An anonymous donor has offered the reward of up to $1500 for the person who can find the most mistakes in the booklets, before 7 October.

LGNZ president Lawrence Yule says that while voters do use the booklets to make their choice, they also get information about candidates from other sources, such as advertisements.

Mr Yule, who is also Mayor of Hastings, says in the four elections he has been involved in, he knows of only one mistake in local election literature.
