Mixed fortunes for ski fields

Snow conditions in Queenstown have led to one ski field closing a week earlier than planned, while another is extending its season by a week.

Queenstown's Remarkables ski area was due to close this weekend but will stay open until 6 October, due to spring snow conditions in the past two weeks.

However, Coronet Peak, which was scheduled to close on 6 October, will close this weekend.

NZSki general manager sales and marketing Craig Douglas says the switch around simply came down to snow conditions.

Canterbury's Mt Hutt ski area has already extended its snow season to 13 October to include the full two weeks of the October school holidays.
