Firefighters have contained an earlier out of control burnoff on the Remarkables, and have reopened the skifield access road which had been threatened by the flames.
Firefighters left the scene of the fire on Wednesday evening, but earlier three helicopters with monsoon buckets and two ground crew were used to extinguish the flames.

More than 100 skiers had to delay their departure from the ski field when flames threatened the access road, closing it for a short time.
The fire started on Tuesday as a burn-off on farm land, and flared out of control on Wednesday afternoon.
Queenstown Lakes District Council's principal rural fire officer Gordon Bailey says it appears that was the result of a change in weather conditions and the wind picking up.
He says it wasn't an easy fire to fight from the ground, but firefighters were successful in preventing it from spreading further up the Remarkables.
Mr Bailey says the scene has been handed back to the landowner, and the weather expected overnight would make another flare up unlikely.
The fire service says it will be investigating why and how the fire got out of control.
