Four South Canterbury rugby players have voluntarily stood down from this weekend's game while police look into an accusation of rape.
Police are investigating a complaint from a woman that she was raped by men from the rugby team at a hotel in Whanganui during the weekend.
Lawyer Tony Shaw said the men have stood down from the upcoming game against West Coast, so their team mates and families are not the subject of uncessary rumours.
But he says they do not accept the accusations made against them.
Detective Senior Sergeant Neil Forlong said South Canterbury Rugby is cooperating with the investigation and most of the interviews in Timaru are expected to be finished on Friday.
