Investigators will try to find out on Tuesday what caused two fires in Christchurch overnight - one at a house and the other at a bar.
Three fire engines were sent to a blaze at an unoccupied two-storey house about 11.40pm on Monday.
No-one was in the house but the first floor was extensively damaged.
About two hours later, the Quarry Bar in the Ensign Shopping centre in Halswell was completely destroyed, despite crew from ten fire engines fighting the blaze.
An initial report suggested someone may have been in the building, but a thorough search found no-one inside.
Four fire engines and crew were still at the scene on Tuesday morning scene dampening down hot spots.
