Shellfish warning for north Taranaki

10:55 pm on 5 September 2013

A public health warning is advising people not to collect or eat shellfish in North Taranaki.

The warning is for Mohakatino, just south of Mokau, to Motonui, north of New Plymouth.

Shellfish testing at Mohakatino this week has shown the levels of paralytic shellfish poisoning are above what's deemed to be safe.

The Taranaki District Health Board warning says anyone who eats toxic shellfish - including kina, mussels, toheroa and pipis - is at risk of getting sick.
