Quake at midnight near Seddon

Central New Zealand was shaken by a magnitude 5.1 earthquake just after midnight.

GeoNet said the quake, at 12.04am, was centred 16km deep and located 35km northeast of Seddon. The magnitude was revised downwards from 5.3 originally.

GeoNet said several aftershocks of about magnitude 3.0 had been felt since then.

A small slip on State Highway One south of Seddon has since been cleared.

Police and the Fire Service said there have been no other reports of damage.
