Two people killed in separate motor vehicle crashes on State Highway 73 in North Canterbury on Saturday have been named as Faith Maree Wood, 18, and Tracy Ann Shipston, 39.
Both were Christchurch residents.
The police say Ms Wood was a passenger in a Mitsubishi van that left the road and went down a bank south of Arthurs Pass, just before 6am on Saturday .
Five other people were in the van, all of whom were in a stable condition in hospital on Sunday afternoon.
In the second crash, Ms Shipston died instantly when her vehicle struck a tour bus head on, west of Springfield, at 5:30pm on Saturday. There were no passengers in the bus at the time.
Investigations into both crashes are continuing.
