Merger means Dunedin printing jobs go

A printing firm has confirmed it is cutting 19 jobs in Dunedin as it merges two operations.

Wickliffe Solutions, which is part of the Kalamazoo printing group, bought the 130-year-old firm Taieri Print last year and is now combining it with its Kaikorai Valley operation.

Wickliffe chief executive Glen Climo says most of the Taieri's offset printing operations were not viable, so the company is focusing on its digital offerings.

Mr Climo says the change means 15 permanent jobs have to go, and four fixed term positions.

He says the timing is not good for Otago but the company is not closing down.

He says Wickliffe Solutions is investing another $2 million in new digital presses in Dunedin and may be in a position to create new jobs in that area next year.
