Bids to build Ruataniwha scheme submitted

10:50 am on 23 August 2013

Hawke's Bay Regional Council says the two companies shortlisted for the design and construction phase of the $600 million Ruataniwha water storage scheme have submitted their bids.

The council says an expert selection panel will spend the next couple of months analysing and assessing the bids, which will give detailed costings for the project and give farmers a more accurate price for water from the dam.

Farmers have been waiting to see what the cost of the water is before committing to the project.

The two contractors are a joint French-Spanish consortium and Hawkins, a New Zealand company.
