Fonterra needs to rebuild confidence in China: McCully

8:42 am on 23 August 2013

Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully says it's clear there's anxiety about Fonterra products in China and the company needs to rebuild consumer confidence there.

Mr McCully has been in China this week to discuss recent meat and dairy trade issues.

While more work needs to be done, he said New Zealand's trade relationship with China is still in good shape.

Mr McCully said senior Chinese ministers he's been speaking to are comfortable with how cases like the botulism scare have been handled, but it was agreed Fonterra's consumer confidence needs to be rebuilt.
