10:01 pm on 22 August 2013

Searchers scouring the area near the Heaphy track for a Karamea man missing for two weeks have found human remains.

Andrew Ross White, aged in his 50s, went into the Heaphy track from the Takaka end on 6 August.

Police say he was not well equipped.

Sixteen searchers, including three dog teams and a helicopter crew, began searching the Karamea end of the track on Wednesday morning after people reported seeing him.

However they say searchers focusing on the coastline on Thursday have found remains that appear to have been washed in on the tide

Search coordinator Sergeant Sean Judd says a formal identification is yet to take place, but he is confident the remains are that of the missing man.

A large number of volunteers from Hokitika, Murchison, Reefton, Nelson, Westport, Karamea were involved in the search during the last two days.
