Police and Customs have seized up to $60,000 worth of the class C drug pentedrone in Dunedin and Balclutha.
Almost half a kilogram of the drug, which is similar to Ecstasy, had been imported from China and search warrants were used to track it down.
Police say a 28-year-old Dunedin man, 28, and a 42-year-old Balclutha woman have been arrested and will face importation charges.
Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Inglis says the drug would have been sold on the streets.
