Transport inquiry into possible misuse of money

12:23 pm on 9 August 2013

A senior manager at Auckland Transport has been put on indefinite leave while the organisation investigates the potential misuse of public money.

The organisation is an independent arm of the Auckland Council and deals with resealing roads, potholes and other minor roadworks.

Auckland Transport on Thursday was releasing few details about the investigation, other than to say it was initiated after a review of procurement procedure in the road control maintenance area of the business.

Radio New Zealand understands the manager is in middle management.

Auckland Transport is not making any further comment, saying the matter may involve employment or legal proceedings. The council says it was notified of the investigation on Thursday, but it won't comment either.

Police have yet to return Radio New Zealand's calls about whether they are investigating.
