The Auckland Council says residents of an apartment building evacuated because of concerns about its structural integrity can now return.

About 50 people were evacuated from the Prince Albert apartments on Albert St on Wednesday 31 July when private engineers found columns on the ground floor had deteriorated.

The council says remedial work on the building has finished and residents have been notifiedthey are allowed back in.

The five-storey heritage building, with about 20 apartments, was built in the 1920s.
