The Labour Party says it has many outstanding questions about the proposed $600 million Ruataniwha water-storage scheme after a fact finding mission to Hawke's Bay.
Labour MPs Maryan Street, Ruth Dyson and Moana Mackey visited the dam site in Central Hawke's Bay on Tuesday. They met lobby groups concerned about the environmental effects and cost and heard the views of local Maori, farmers, environmentalists and ratepayers.
Ms Street says Labour still has questions about whether the dam is neccessary, whether there is a sound economic case for it and whether it will damage the environment.
She says the party will continue to investigate before it decides whether or not to support the project.
