Police in Christchurch have charged a man with the murder of a woman who was found dead outside her flat on Saturday night.
The woman has been named as Valmai Jean McFie, 67.
The suspect, 59, was initially charged with assault.
That has been upgraded following the results of a post mortem.
Police say Ms McFie lived next door to the man in a council housing complex in the suburb of Spreydon.
The man will appear in Christchurch District Court on Monday morning.
