Moka murder accused remanded without plea

4:57 pm on 18 July 2013

A man accused of killing his partner in Hokianga last month has made another court appearance.

Matiu Korewha entered no plea to a charge of murdering Barbara Moka of Rawene when he appeared in the High Court at Whangarei on Thursday morning.

Mr Korewha was arrested two weeks ago, after the police found Ms Moka's body near a Hokianga marae.

Under the courts' new case-processing system, he is deemed to have entered a not guilty plea.

But his lawyer says she has yet to process all the evidence disclosed by the police and that could change.

Mr Korewha has been remanded in custody until 19 September.
