Plan changes 'will resolve' housing density fears

Auckland's deputy mayor, Penny Hulse, believes changes being made to the city's 30-year plan will resolve most community concerns about higher-density housing.

Height limits for some proposed multi-storeyed housing zones appear likely to be lowered, as a result of community feedback on the Unitary Plan.

The chair of the Albert-Eden Local Board, Peter Haynes, says his community has scored a win, with the proposed lowering of future building heights near the Mt Eden shops.

It will be another month or more before the Auckland Council votes on whether the community views can be built into the draft plan.

Ms Hulse says the changes should be able to deal with most community concerns, and still create enough capacity to house a growing population.
