Snow has closed the Desert Road in the central North Island.
The New Zealand Transport Agency said on Wednesday the section of State Highway 1 from Waiouru to Rangipo would remain shut until further notice.
The agency said motorists can use alternative routes on State Highway 49 from Waiouru to Raetihi, State Highway 4 from Raetihi to National Park, and State Highway 47 from National Park to Turangi.
