Royal baby will light up New Zealand

3:43 pm on 10 July 2013

More than 20 landmarks around New Zealand will be lit up to celebrate the birth of the royal family's newest member.

The Duchess of Cambridge is due to give birth any day.

On the night following the birth, landmarks including Auckland's Sky Tower and Dunedin's Lanarch Castle will be lit up in either blue or pink, depending on the baby's gender.

Monarchy New Zealand is organising the illumination and its chair Sean Palmer says he's pleased cities and towns across the country are keen to take part.

He says the project has been very popular in every corner of the country.

Dr Palmer is encouraging people to donate money to Plunket as a way of celebrating the royal baby's arrival.
