A large scrub fire south of Christchurch has destroyed a farm shed and prompted the evacuation of two houses.
The Fire Service was alerted to the fire on Powells Rd in Springston at about 2am on Saturday after a wind gust knocked over power lines, setting trees and shrubbery on fire.
At times the fire stretched across two kilometres.
Lincoln station chief fire officer Kevin Green says it is now under control, but six fire engines and five water tankers are still at the scene making sure it does not flare up.
