A 60-year-old man has been found dead at a house in the Hastings suburb of Flaxmere.
Detective Sergeant Warren Murdoch says officers were called to the house on Monday evening, where they found the body of a man inside.
Mr Murdoch says police are treating the death as suspicious. Police believe there was a domestic dispute, but no weapons have been found.
A post mortem will be carried out on Wednesday.
Officers are speaking to members of the man's family and are not looking for anybody else in relation to the inquiry.
