Ructions in peace organisation over funding

5:58 am on 22 August 2009

There has been a split in a prominent peace organisation, with six council members walking out over what they believe is a lack of clarity in how funds are spent.

The Peace Foundation receives money from the Government, charities and bequests.

Foundation director Annie Ackerman and six council members including Waikakere City Mayor Bob Harvey walked out of a meeting on Thursday night, saying there is not enough transparency.

In particular, they say too much money is being spent on the running of the organisation, including salary and administration costs.

Ms Ackerman says she has confidence in the new council elected at the meeting on Thursday. She says she is considering the council's request for her to return as director.
