Questions have been raised over whether home insulation installers will be able to keep up with demand when a new subsidy comes into effect in July.
Homeowners will be able to apply for a government grant of up to $1,800 for home insulation or a clean heating device, such as a heat pump, regardless of how much they earn.
The Government has set aside $320 million to insulate an estimated 180,000 homes over the next four years.
It has set a target of 27,000 homes in its first year, rising to more than 60,000 within four years.
Christchurch insulation manufacturer Malcolm Corbett says while the industry is geared up to meet the level of demand in the first year, beyond that is questionable.
The head of Wellington-based home insulaton firm Energy Smart, Joan Smith, says when the scheme was announced last month the company's call centre was inundated with up to 500 calls a day.
Despite this, she is confident her firm will be able to meet the expected demand.
Ms Smith admits the industry struggles to hold on to staff, even though recruitment has become easier in tough economic times.
She says she does not have all the details about how the assesments will work and has yet to receive the paperwork.
Energy Minister Gerry Brownlee is confident the the systems will be in place on time and the main problem will be meeting demand.
