Wellington police cordoned off Johnstone Street between Lambton Quay and Featherstone Street on Friday night after a suspicious parcel was found outside a clothing store.
Police evacuated the area while the bomb disposal squad inspected the parcel with the use of a robot.
The parcel was found outside Jay Jays about 8.30pm.
