The Transport Agency has blasted the majority of risky rocks in the Homer Tunnel in Fiordland, but won't say when the road will re-open.
The tunnel has been closed for more than three weeks while work is carried out to remove about 2000 tonnes of unstable rock high above the western entrance.
NZTA Southland manager Peter Robinson said video and photos show the majority of the rock is gone, but because the rocks can't be seen up close, a risk remains.
He said the weather on Monday is too poor to look, so inspectors will try and get closer to the site tomorrow.
He would not put a date on when the tunnel will be open again.
