NZ Violin Prize won by Canadian

The biennial Michael Hill International Violin Competition was won in Auckland on Saturday night by Nikki Chooi of Canada.

The finalists each performed a violin concerto with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra at the Town Hall.

Sarah Christian of Germany was second and Boson Mo, also of Canada, came third.

The three finalists were selected after several days of competition, starting in Queenstown.

New Zealander Natalie Lin did not make the final but won the audience prize. Benjamin Baker of Wellington was awarded the New Zealand development prize.
