Dame Catherine Tizard to stay as patron of inquiry

The patron of an inquiry into family violence initiated by Sir Owen Glenn says she will stay on in the role.

Dame Catherine Tizard had been reconsidering her involvement in the $2 million inquiry being funded by the philanthropist after its chief executive and three of the four chairpersons resigned.

Dame Catherine said on Thursday she had met the new chief executive, Kirsten Rei, and found they had the same objectives.

She said the outcome of the inquiry is more important than any conflict of opinion.

The board's chairman, Bill Wilson, says the inquiry's corporate approach may be a factor in the resignations, but it will help to run it on time and on budget with the appropriate expertise and intellectual rigour.
