The first video game created with funding from New Zealand on Air has been released online and on iPhones.

The aim of Indie Music Manager is to promote local music and talent.

The game was developed by Ingame in Auckland which received $280,000 from New Zealand On Air.

In the game, players are band managers for artists and the goal is to turn the musicians into global superstars.

Developer Stephen Knightly said the funding was essential to get the game off the ground.

He said a niche game targeted at a New Zealand audience would struggle to be made without the support of an agency like New Zealand On Air.
