Hunters believe conditions in the lower North Island may be in their favour for the start of the duck season on Saturday. The season officially begins at 6.30am.
Fish & Game's Wellington region manager Phil Teal said it looks like the weather might be coming to the party.
He expects the drought will have an impact on where hunters go to shoot the ducks. However, the number of sightings of birds had been quite high.
