A bag of New Zealand Army Band trumpets was stolen shortly before the ANZAC Day dawn service in Cranmer Square, Christchurch. A man has been arrested.
Parade participants were gathering in Cranmer Square at about 5.20am prior to the parade commencing, when a bag containing several trumpets and the music for the parade was placed on the ground.
A cyclist rode past and grabbed the bag, then cycled towards Park Terrace. Police located him leaving Hagley Park and arrested him.
The bag, trumpets and music were returned to their owners in time for the parade.
