Presbyterian Support Services will lose nearly 500 personnel in Otago as Southern District Health Board moves to a new contractor.
The DHB did not renew a $5.5 million contract with Presbyterian Support at the end of last year, instead opting to go with a nationwide provider of in-home services for the elderly.
Presbyterian Support Otago chief executive, Gillian Bremner, said while 90% of the staff will be re-employed with the new contractor, it is disappointing to lose the contract.
The district health board is moving from 17 home-based service contractors to three.
