The jury at the Hayden Miles murder trial resumed its deliberations Tuesday morning.
Gavin Gosnell has admitted he attacked the 15 year old in August 2011, but denies murder.
The teenager's body was cut into 12 pieces before being buried in different cemeteries in Christchurch.
Jurors started their deliberations at 2pm Monday before retiring for the evening.
In his summing up, Justice Chisholm told them not to let emotion cloud their judgement, despite some of the distressing evidence they had heard.
