Two women injured when a tourist bus they were on crashed in the Bay of Plenty have been released from hospital.
The bus, carrying over 30 passengers, crashed into a bank on State Highway 2 in Athenree Gorge near Waihi Beach at 3.20pm on Monday.
An ambulance took the women, aged 71 and 74, to Tauranga Hospital. A spokesperson said they were treated for minor injuries and discharged about 8.30pm.
A volunteer fireman at the scene said recent rain in the area is likely to have been a factor.
Paul Tucker said the section of the road where the bus crashed is known to become slippery in the wet.
Police said the road through the gorge remains open and a tow truck has removed the bus.
