Auckland Council is confident the return of the Australian V8 Supercar series to the city will boost the region's economy.
The New Zealand leg of the championship returns to the city this weekend at a revamped Pukekohe Park Raceway.
Hamilton hosted the race for four years but dropped it after the city council lost $37 million on the event.
When Auckland Council decided last year to host the series again some councillors expressed concern about the financial risk.
However a manager at the council's event agency, Rachel Carroll, says the high level of bookins for accommodation is a strong indicator the event is on track to deliver a $7 million boost to the city.
The V8 Supercar event begins with practice sessions on Friday and races start on Saturday morning.
